The words FUT and FUE often appear in queries for hair transplant information, and are briefly explained below. FUE is Follicular Unit Extraction, a term used in hair transplantation techniques to refer specifically to a method of taking hair follicles. The advantages of the FUE method are small scars, less pain, and rapid healing at the follicle extraction site. FUT involves cutting a piece of scalp (flap) with hair in the hair supply area, then separating the flap into unit by unit hair follicles, and finally implanting them in the area of hair loss. The area where the scalp is taken needs to be sutured and a scar will be left in the occipital area, but the hair is not easily detected by covering it up. Generally speaking, FUE is suitable for small areas of hair loss and FUT is suitable for large areas of hair loss. Currently, FUT is used more often in hair transplantation.
