Can STDs cause male infertility?

Venereal diseases such as syphilis, gonorrhea, and non-gonococcal urethritis can cause not only localized lesions in the genital tract, but can also affect the entire reproductive system, leading to male infertility. Men with gonorrhea often develop epididymitis, prostatitis, and vesiculitis. Lesions in these areas can not only cause great damage to the patient’s health, but can also affect the man’s reproductive function, which may lead to sperm malformation, semen non-liquefaction, low sperm vitality, etc. In men with non-gonococcal urethritis, mycoplasma and chlamydia can parasitize the male semen, resulting in increased sperm malformation and decreased penetration, which can lead to infertility. It should be noted that not every STD can cause infertility, and if there is no or minimal damage to the reproductive system, there will be little effect on reproductive function. The last thing I want to remind patients is that they should go to a regular hospital to receive treatment and not take any chances, thinking that some STDs do not necessarily lead to infertility and taking a laissez-faire attitude, which is extremely wrong.
