There are many different types of eye surgery, each with a different approach. The general procedure of eye surgery (except eyelid and orbital surgery) is briefly described here. Pre-operative eye surgery requires flushing of the conjunctival sac and tear ducts, both for cleansing purposes and to check for chronic dacryocystitis, which is a contraindication for internal eye surgery. After the flushing is completed, a mark will be made on the frontal area above the eye where the surgery will be done. You should go to the toilet before the operation to prevent the desire to go to the toilet or the action of holding your breath during the operation from interfering with the operation. Patients will have their eyes disinfected upon entering the operating room and should not touch their heads after disinfection. Ocular surface surgery (such as conjunctival swelling, orbital fat prolapse, corneoconjunctival foreign body, conjunctival lymphatic follicle, pterygium, myopic surgery and some strabismus and cataract ultrasound emulsification surgery) is anesthetized with spot local anesthetic eye drops or subconjunctival injection of local anesthetic; some glaucoma surgery, corneal transplantation and fundoplication surgery are anesthetized with retrobulbar block anesthesia, that is, anesthesia with an injection behind the eye; pediatric eye surgery or advanced glaucoma Most of the surgeries are performed with general anesthesia. The surgery is performed under a microscope, and the surgical instruments are sharp. Do not move any part of the body, especially the head, during the surgery, and inform the surgeon in advance before coughing and sneezing. You should keep your eyes open and stare directly above you or at the brightest spot. Sometimes you need to cooperate with the surgeon to turn your eyes in different directions, such as left and right, top of the head, right above you and the bottom of your feet. The length of the surgery varies from 10 minutes to 2 hours. There may be mild eye swelling or eye grinding during the surgery. There are various types of eye surgery. The whole operation includes preoperative preparation, anesthesia, and surgical operation, and you should cooperate well with the doctor during the operation to ensure the smooth completion of the operation.
