Infantile vaginitis occurs mostly in young girls between the ages of 2 and 9 years and is a common condition in female infants and children. Because vaginitis is mostly associated with vulvovaginitis, it is often referred to collectively as infantile vulvovaginitis. The most common cause of pediatric vulvovaginitis is bacterial infection. The normal pediatric vaginal flora includes staphylococci, streptococci, enterococci, rods, and immobile bacilli. The common pathogens are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Escherichia coli, Aspergillus, Gonococcus, etc. Rarely, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are found.
