Does cryotherapy work for warts?

Warts are caused by human papilloma virus infection. Cryotherapy is effective for warts, mainly by causing tissue necrosis through low temperature. Freezing requires repeated freezing and thawing 3 times to give a red halo around the lesion is preferred. The size of the ice ball must extend beyond the wart tissue in order to give the entire wart enough low temperature to remove it completely. After cryotherapy, contact with water needs to be avoided to avoid infection. When blisters appear, it is best to let the blisters dry and scab off on their own. The scabs need to be followed up promptly after they fall off and sometimes it may take several repeated freezing sessions to remove the warts completely. For stubborn viral warts, you can also give pindamycin with lidocaine as a local closure treatment at the root of the wart.
