When the patient first sprains, cold compresses are applied (up to forty-eight hours), followed by hot compresses to reduce swelling.
Patients should have plenty of rest and use brakes in their daily life; applying ice packs to the affected area can help reduce swelling and pain; and medication should be administered according to the sprain and on the advice of the doctor.
For pain in the affected area, painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin can be taken for anti-inflammatory and analgesic purposes; rehabilitation exercises for the rehabilitation phase of shoulder sprains, such as pendulum exercises, can be done during the hot compressing process.
