Examples include acute and chronic inflammation or tumors of the nasopharynx and throat, some diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract such as gastroesophageal reflux pharyngitis, gastritis, esophagitis, gastric cancer, and esophageal tumors, and systemic diseases such as iron deficiency anemia, hypothyroidism, menopausal syndrome, diabetes mellitus, and hypertensive heart disease.
