Many diseases can cause foreign body sensation in the throat, including diseases of the nasopharynx and throat, diseases of adjacent organs, and systemic diseases.
Examples include acute and chronic inflammation or tumors of the nasopharynx and throat, some diseases of the upper gastrointestinal tract such as gastroesophageal reflux pharyngitis, gastritis, esophagitis, gastric cancer, and esophageal tumors, and systemic diseases such as iron deficiency anemia, hypothyroidism, menopausal syndrome, diabetes mellitus, and hypertensive heart disease. In addition, anxiety and tension, hysteria can also lead to foreign body sensation in the throat.
