Recently, my child had a cold, fever, cough and nasal congestion every day. I gave him some oral medications for cold, such as cold and fever granules and Qingkailing, but he still had fever. Yesterday, I checked his blood count and the result showed high lymphocytes, a typical sign of viral infection. Therefore, he was not given antibiotics, but only symptomatic medication, plus nasal irrigation. This morning the fever symptoms appeared again, my parents got angry and told them that it takes 3-4 days for a viral infection to clear up, but they didn’t listen. They thought we were not good for the child, and how could it go down without giving the child a bottle and anti-inflammatory medication. We had no choice but to take the child to the hospital, and the pediatrician did not recommend a bottle of anti-inflammatory drugs, so they prescribed some oral medication. After returning, my parents said how not to give a suspension. In fact, my parents are the only ones who have this kind of knowledge. Nowadays, many people in China use antibiotics whenever they have a fever, regardless of whether it is caused by a bacterial infection or not, and they think it is better to have a suspension than to take oral medication. In fact, this understanding is completely wrong, because most or all colds are caused by viruses, only at a later stage may be accompanied by bacterial infections, so do not apply antibiotics at the beginning of the cold. Now the whole country is abusing antibiotics and some doctors are actively prescribing some antibiotics, which is very irresponsible. It’s not that antibiotics can’t be used, but when they should be used, they should be used. So I think that the principles of antibiotic use must be popularized to the public and correct the misconceptions, but of course this road will take a long time to go now.
