Breasts are the symbol of female beauty and the brightest part of a woman’s soft curves. Like a blooming flower, breasts exude fragrance and tell the story of loving and being loved. Breast cancer and other breast diseases are like moths that eat away at the most beautiful scenery of a woman’s chest, making the scenery crippled or even gone. Breast deficiency is the absence of breasts or their shape is damaged due to various pathological reasons. Breast deficiency often makes women lose their self-confidence, shy away from socializing, unable to participate in sports activities such as swimming, and has given rise to many psychological problems. Among the causes of breast loss, the first one is breast cancer. At present, most of the breast cancer patients in China have their breasts removed after diagnosis, and the proportion of breast-conserving surgery or breast reconstruction is low. In recent years, with the improvement of living standard and the change of concept in China, more and more breast cancer patients have the need to preserve or reconstruct their breasts. As a breast disease prevention and treatment center in Henan Province and a training base of Wu Jieping Foundation for early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in Henan Province, the Breast Disease Center of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zheng University has empathized with the suffering of breast cancer patients in its clinical practice for many years, and has thus developed a strong sense of responsibility and mission to fulfill the dream of breast for the sisters with cancer in our province. Through more than 10 years of clinical practice, the technology has been perfected and more than 500 sisters with cancer have had their breasts preserved or reconstructed. According to Associate Professor Zhang Yanwu, an expert of the center, breast-conserving surgery can be safely performed for breast cancer patients with single-incidence, more than 3cm from the nipple, tumor diameter below 3cm, and no or only a few metastases in the axillary lymph nodes. The radical effect of this surgery is comparable to that of mastectomy, while effectively protecting women’s physical and mental health. For larger tumors, if the patient requires breast conservation, neoadjuvant chemotherapy can be used to shrink the tumor before breast-conserving surgery, which can also achieve the same efficacy as mastectomy. For sisters with cancer who do not meet the breast-conserving indications and need to have their breasts removed, the center’s stage I and stage II breast reconstructive surgery can also recreate a perfect breast, and the technology has almost reached the level of fakeness. According to Associate Professor Zhang Yanwu, the center’s breast reconstruction surgeries include: breast reconstruction with skin expansion and breast implant placement; breast reconstruction with tilted latissimus dorsi muscle flap transfer and breast implant placement; transverse rectus abdominis muscle flap with tilting (TRAM) or free graft breast reconstruction (free
TRAM) or DIEP, which can be used flexibly according to the patient’s specific condition. What is worth mentioning is that TRAM and DIEP procedures produce breasts with sufficient volume, good shape, soft texture, slight drape and can remove the abdominal fat, which is a “multi-benefit”. For more than 10 years, the Breast Center of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zheng University has become the first choice for women’s breast treatment in China through its excellent medical skills and quality services. It is believed that with the perfection of breast conservation and breast reconstruction technology, more and more sisters with cancer will refuse to be disabled and regain their self-confidence.
