Incisionless abdominal surgery to cure colorectal cancer

With the trend of minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic radical colorectal cancer surgery is now quite mature, however, this procedure still requires a 4-5 cm incision in the abdomen to remove the surgical specimen and place the anastomosis against the staple holder. As a result, postoperative complications such as painful infection of the incision, incisional hernia, abdominal adhesions at the incision and affecting the appearance, and even intestinal obstruction may occur. For this reason, through continuous research and repeated demonstration, the Center for Colorectal Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment of the Department of Surgical Oncology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine has successfully carried out “incision-free abdominal radical laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer through the natural lumen”. Compared with traditional laparoscopic surgery, this surgery has the same scope of radical treatment and standardized lymph node dissection. Since the tumor is completely removed through the anus and the reconstruction of the digestive tract is completely done under laparoscopy, this surgery not only eliminates the surgical incision in the abdomen, but also effectively reduces the incidence of surgical complications and allows patients to recover quickly after surgery. At present, the Center for Colorectal Cancer Surgery of our hospital has performed this surgery for many patients with colorectal cancer and achieved satisfactory results, with no case of complications such as infection and anastomotic fistula.
