The literature reports that the overall incidence of scarring after skin injuries and surgical procedures is 40-70%, and can be as high as 9l% in burn patients. Generally speaking, within 2 weeks of healing, the wound will not leave a scar, but will leave pigmentation (hyperpigmentation or depigmentation); 2-3 weeks of healing wounds, depending on the individual’s physical condition, it is likely to leave a scar; more than 3 weeks of healing wounds are mostly left with proliferative or contractural scars. Therefore, depigmentation is feasible for wounds healed within 2 weeks; prophylactic treatment can be considered for wounds healed in 2-3 weeks; and a combination of scar prevention treatments must be applied to wounds healed in more than 3 weeks.
