How long does it take for a pediatric fever suppressant to work

Usually, most children’s body temperature can gradually drop in about 10 minutes after applying pediatric antipyretic suppositories. Pediatric fever suppositories, namely acetaminophen, have a fast cooling effect, but are temporary symptomatic antipyretic drugs that can last for 4-6 hours clinically and have no therapeutic effect on disease recovery. If the child continues to have recurrent fever, suspected to be caused by bacterial or viral infections, he/she needs to be seen by a pediatrician in a timely manner, and blood tests will be performed to determine the cause of the fever and then treat it with appropriate medication. In addition, parents should pay attention to monitor the child’s body temperature before using the fever suppositories, which should be applied only when the body temperature is >38.5℃. If the child has a history of convulsions, antipyretics should be applied prophylactically at the beginning of the fever. In addition, some children may occasionally develop rash, hives and other adverse reactions after using pediatric antipyretic suppositories, which should be stopped immediately and consult a pediatrician.
