How to treat refractory differentiated thyroid cancer?

Differentiated thyroid carcinoma refers to papillary and follicular carcinoma, for which the main and most effective treatment is surgery. Refractory differentiated thyroid cancer mainly refers to tumors invading trachea, esophagus, larynx, prevertebral fascia and large blood vessels in the neck. These patients are difficult to operate, and patients, families and doctors all bear great risks and pressure, but as long as patients and families do not give up, and doctors have the courage to undertake and take the responsibility of treating the disease, many patients have obtained good treatment results. The success of treatment is not only related to the attitude of patients and families and economic conditions, but also the solid work foundation, high technical level and noble medical ethics of the treating doctor are inseparable. If the patient’s family is afraid of spending money, or no money at all, more importantly, afraid of spending money on the disease is not cured, the doctor is afraid of the failure of the operation to bring medical disputes to their disadvantage, etc., the treatment can not be completed. In recent years, the number of advanced thyroid cancer patients coming to our hospital for treatment has gradually increased, and with the active cooperation of patients’ families, we have treated a number of patients with thyroid cancer invading the internal jugular vein, trachea, esophagus and larynx, and achieved good treatment results. After surgery, the metastatic lymph nodes in the neck, the whole thyroid gland and the esophagus muscle layer were removed, and the trachea of the cervical segment was 5 cm. The upper and lower tracheal stumps were docked with non-invasive sutures after tracheal resection.
