There are numerous causes of foreign body sensation in the throat and the mechanism varies depending on its etiology. Foreign body sensation in the throat, which may be caused by a lesion in the nasopharynx, may also be due to oedema, or if an adjacent organ or the upper gastrointestinal tract is irritated, it can also cause foreign body sensation in the throat through nerve conduction.
