Myopia prevention and control tricks are both true and false

Myopia is a common eye disease that plagues teenagers and their parents, and once they find out that they or their children have myopia, they are often at a loss when it comes to medical treatment. Nowadays, there are various ways to treat myopia in society, and some people take advantage of myopic patients’ eagerness to seek medical treatment and adopt various means to make huge profits, to the detriment of the patients. Myopia is caused by an improper match between the refractive power of the refractive system and the axial length of the front and back of the eye (if the eye is compared to a camera, myopia is like a camera that does not take a clear image, then it is understood that the reason is that the distance between the camera lens and its negative does not match). There are still many reasons for this, but it boils down to two main factors: genetics and environment. High myopia is autosomal recessive, while general myopia is multifactorial, with both genetics and environment playing a role. Since science cannot change the genetic predisposition, the prevention and treatment of myopia should start with changing the objective environment. Among the complex objective environment, the main cause of myopia can be attributed to one point, namely excessive nearness. Nearness inevitably leads to near reflexes, including increased regulation of the ciliary muscles of the eye, enhanced inward collection of the eye, and narrowing of the pupil of the eye. The ciliary muscles of the eyes are inevitably strained by the long-term enhanced regulation (just as prolonged labor causes sore feet and soft hands) and form a temporary regulation of myopia both so-called pseudomyopia. When the eyes are strengthened inward for a long time, the extraocular muscles compress the eyeball and increase the intraocular pressure, which not only increases the refraction of the eye, but also makes the eye axis longer and becomes true myopia. When looking at the distance, if some of the regulation is not relaxed, it is true and false mixed myopia. Since the formation of true myopia is related to the elongation of the axis of the eye, medication, acupuncture, massage, and magnetic therapy cannot change the fact that the axis of the eye is long, so the results are not satisfactory. Excimer laser is used to change the refractive power of the eye by changing the curvature of the cornea, which can correct myopia or reduce the degree of myopia, and can be chosen by young people over the age of 18 who are in a position to do so. The vast majority of other myopic patients still have glasses as a safe and effective method of correction. Before prescription lenses should go to a qualified hospital ophthalmology scientific optometry, for adolescents, under ciliary muscle paralysis to exclude regulatory (pseudo) myopia. Studies have shown that pseudomyopia is reversible and recurrent, and in some cases it is not treated, as long as the work and study conditions are changed and the eyes are rested sufficiently to heal themselves (just like resting sufficiently to regain strength after exertion), and vice versa. Therefore, the easiest way to prevent myopia is to read and study for about 45 minutes in an open space or try to look far away for about 10 minutes. Since pseudomyopia is caused by a temporary increase in regulation, the use of drugs such as atropine to relax the regulation of the eye muscles can indeed play a role in alleviating the effect, but such drugs can cause difficulties in seeing near, photophobia and can not be used for a long time, so it is not the ideal way to treat pseudomyopia. Eye patches, acupuncture, massage, magnetic therapy, etc. are used to improve vision by increasing the excitement of the visual system, which does not change the refractive state of the eye and can only achieve a fleeting therapeutic effect, which in the opinion of ophthalmologists is not a good way to prevent myopia. It is worth emphasizing that, at present, there is no treatment for pseudomyopia that can be cured and never relapsed. Only by persistently applying some simple scientific methods over a long period of time and spending the myopia susceptibility period in prevention and treatment can we make the temporary efforts become our own expectations.
