What happens when a newborn has tears

Just born not long after the little baby, a pair of eyes are always watery, very attractive, but some little baby eyes seem to have more water, always flow out, dry with a handkerchief not long after, and will flow out, this is the newborn baby tears more than. Parents mostly think that the child’s eyes are inflamed, but after careful observation, the child’s eyes are not red, not swollen, as if normal, is particularly tearful, always to flow out. It turns out that this is a disease called neonatal dacryocystitis. Some children at birth, the lower exit of the nasolacrimal duct is congenitally closed by a film, or because the epithelial debris blocked the tear duct, so that the normal secretion of tears can not be discharged through the tear duct, tears have to flow down from the cheeks, forming the phenomenon of more than tears. The majority of newborns are born with this very thin film intact, and after 3-4 weeks, it will rupture on its own, so that the tear ducts are open and the phenomenon of lacrimation will improve, and tears can be discharged normally through the tear ducts. However, if the film never ruptures and remains blocked at the outlet of the nasolacrimal duct, the tears will continue to accumulate in the lumen of the duct, and the more they accumulate, the more they will irritate the mucous membrane of the duct wall and cause inflammation, resulting in dacryocystitis. This type of dacryocystitis usually affects one side of the eye, but rarely both sides. If diagnosed with neonatal dacryocystitis, do not be in a hurry to go for surgery, because most babies are still in the stage of continuous development of the tear ducts within 6 months, so conservative therapy should be used first, treating for a period of time, local antibiotic eye drops, and massage the tear sacs, doing 2 to 3 times a day, after a period of time, the film will rupture on its own, and the tear ducts will be clear. If after a period of time, the tear duct still does not work, you can go to the hospital for tear duct flushing to break the film. If this is not possible, a lacrimal duct exploration procedure can be performed, in which the membrane is punctured with a probe to open the lacrimal duct. In rare cases, the tear duct is blocked due to a narrow bone or a deformity of the nose, so other methods to open the tear duct should be considered.
