Generally speaking, IVF is needed to help conceive with bilateral blockage, adhesions or fluid retention in the female partner and severe oligozoospermia in the male partner. A marriage certificate, couple’s ID and proof of not having children are required for IVF. The male partner needs to have a semen test and the female partner needs to complete some basic tests, such as gynecological examination, diagnostic scraping, tubal permeability test, anti-sperm antibodies, liver function and hepatitis B and half, routine blood analysis and clotting time and basal endocrine hormone measurement (on the 3rd day of menstruation). If there is no abnormality, the doctor will create a medical history for you and tell you when to start IVF treatment. The medication is usually started at mid-luteal phase, i.e. day 21 of menstruation, to keep the gonadotropins in the body at a low level, and the menstruation will start around 8 days after the medication. After 3 days of culture, the fertilized eggs are developed into embryos and placed into the uterine cavity. The whole process is very painless and usually does not require hospitalization. One cycle of IVF costs $20,000.
