When taking an X-ray of the lumbar spine, you often see it written as a diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation, is that correct?

The diagnosis of lumbar disc herniation is made by an orthopedic surgeon, not a radiologist. This is one of the reasons why ordinary lumbar spine X-rays can only look at changes in the bone structure of the lumbar vertebrae, and cannot see changes in the soft tissues and spinal nerves, nor can they look at changes in the intervertebral discs. Therefore, it is wrong and unreliable to rely on lumbar spine X-rays to diagnose lumbar disc herniation.
The diagnosis of a lumbar disc herniation must be determined by a combination of symptoms, physical examination and imaging (X-rays, CT and MRI).
