There are risks associated with any surgery, for the same reason that there are risks associated with driving or riding in a car, and there are very few drivers who have never had a scratch or zero car accidents in their lives.
Just choose a hospital you trust, choose a doctor you trust, and have the surgery. Not all surgeries can go wrong, in that case the hospital would have closed long ago. There are major and minor car accidents, and there are also major and minor surgical risks; after all, major car accidents are still rare, so the risks of serious surgery (such as paraplegia and death) are also relatively rare.
