HIV infection is usually asymptomatic for about 3-4 days. The earliest symptoms of HIV infection occur during the acute infection period, which is 2-4 weeks after infection, when the patient develops flu-like symptoms, mainly fever, sore throat, rash, joint pain, diarrhea and swollen lymph nodes. These symptoms usually do not require special treatment and will resolve spontaneously after 1-3 weeks or so. There is no way to distinguish this symptom from a common viral infection, so the diagnosis of AIDS cannot be made based on the patient’s symptoms.
