Can diabetics take lactulose

Lactulose does not usually cause any problems for diabetics at the doses used to treat constipation, so diabetics are able to take Lactulose. Lactulose is used in higher doses for the treatment of hepatic coma or precoma and should be used with caution by diabetics. Diabetic patients who need to use Lactulose should follow their doctor’s instructions. The indication for Lactulose is chronic functional constipation. Lactulose is not absorbed and mild abdominal pain and burning may occur with moderate doses. Excessive doses may cause abdominal discomfort, flatulence, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Lactulose should not be taken by those who are intolerant to lactose or galactose. Lactulose is contraindicated in cases of appendicitis, intestinal obstruction, and unexplained abdominal pain, and is contraindicated in patients with uremia, and in patients with galactosemia. Lactulose should be taken under medical supervision, do not take it on your own.
