After cleft lip secondary deformity surgery, medication changes are usually performed on the 2nd and 4th postoperative days, and stitches are removed on the 7th day. The purpose of the dressing change is mainly to observe and clean the wound and to change the nasal cannula and external dressing.
If correction of nasal deformity is performed, nasal tubes are usually placed. The nasal tube is placed for 3-4 weeks. The tube can be cleaned and placed in the nostril with a layer of petroleum jelly gauze wrapped around the outside of the tube. If Vaseline gauze is not readily available, erythromycin eye ointment can be applied to the gauze instead.
Three to five days after the stitches are removed, scar-preventing medication is applied. You can choose either “Conradipine” or “Centurion” and apply the cream to the scar with the size of a large grain of rice, which can be massaged until it is absorbed. To reduce the tension of the incision on the upper lip, a suture-free tape can be applied at the same time. You can apply suture-free tape after massage and absorption by Conrad, or you can use anti-scar medication during the day and apply suture-free tape at night.
Three weeks after stitch removal, apply a silicone gel cream agent such as Shu Scars. Apply a small rice-grain-sized silicone gel cream, pushing it flat from one end of the scar to the other, and apply it evenly on the scar of the lip. Ordinary silicone film is easy to fall off and may also be accidentally ingested by children, while silicone gel cream agent is more convenient and simple to apply, and it is not easy to fall off after forming a film, so it is an ideal anti-scar preparation to be applied on the upper lip.
