Steps for clean intermittent catheterization in women

1.Prepare the required supplies: catheter, water-soluble lubricant, measuring cup, towel and mirror. 2.Try to urinate on your own first. 3.Place the measuring cup. 4.Clean your hands thoroughly with soap and towel dry; if there is no hand washing facility outside, you can use wet paper towel to clean. 5.Choose a suitable position, either standing or sitting on the toilet seat; if needed, place a mirror in an appropriate position so that you can see the urethra. 6.Use soap and water to clean the labia, urethra and surrounding skin from top to bottom. 7.Wash your hands again. 8.Squeeze off a bit of lubricant from the front end without using it, then apply lubricant to the front 5cm of the catheter and pay attention to keep it clean without contaminating the catheter. 9.With one hand, separate the labia majora and minora and lift them slightly upward to reveal the urethral opening, and with the other hand, gently insert the catheter into the urethra for about 5cm until urine comes out. 10.Fix the catheter with your hand to avoid the catheter slipping out. 11.When the urine stops flowing out, insert the catheter into the urethra again for 2-5cm and press the abdomen gently to release the remaining urine as much as possible. After all the urine has been released, take out the catheter slowly. 12.Clean the urethral opening and surrounding skin with water, and organize your clothes. 13.Clean the used supplies and then wash your hands. 14.The amount of urine released can be recorded as needed.
