Surgery is indicated after 6 to 8 weeks of standardised drug treatment if no satisfactory treatment has been achieved, when fungal pterygoid sinusitis or mucinous cysts are diagnosed, or when nerve-related complications occur intracranially and intraorbitally and nerve function needs to be restored.
