After 6 to 8 weeks of standardised medication, surgery is performed if no satisfactory treatment is achieved, if fungal pterygoid sinusitis or mucous cysts are diagnosed, or if nerve-related complications develop intracranially and intraorbitally, and if neurological restoration is required.
