Many diseases can cause swollen lymph nodes behind the ear. Lymphoma is one of the common causes, as are localised infections, tumours and nodal disease. Lymphoma is characterised by painless progressive lymph node enlargement, often in multiple lymph nodes, or locally in the early stages, and may be accompanied by systemic symptoms such as fever, night sweats and weight loss.
