Plasmacytoid mastitis is a chronic non-bacterial inflammatory disease of the breast with localized breast pain, lumps, pinkish discharge from the nipple, fistulae in the areola, etc. Most patients have a sunken nipple deformity. The disease is recurrent and persistent. Surgical excision of the diseased duct is the main treatment for this disease. We use the method of excision of diseased tissues plus nipple shaping, together with traditional Chinese medicine external treatment (hooping, drainage, dragging, cotton padding, douching) and internal administration of Chinese herbs to clear the liver and heat, which have unique advantages in preserving breast shape and reducing recurrence.
