Contradictions always exist in nature and human social development, water can float or sink a boat, fire, gunpowder and hormones are all the same. From the birth of hormones applied to clinical use, how many lives have been saved alive. SARS, which is certainly still fresh in everyone’s mind, once became an indispensable and important weapon in the treatment process when fighting hard against SARS. It was the adverse effects of hormones on osteonecrosis that existed and the continued use of hormones for treatment on such a large scale that was also responsible for the collective femoral head necrosis of SARS survivors. But the toxic side effects that hormones bring to human beings while curing diseases and saving lives, the medical profession often seems helpless, as Rabindranath Tagore once said, “God’s left hand is used to bestow blessings, but God’s right hand is terrible.” This verse is very appropriate to describe the double-edged sword characteristic that hormones can both save and harm people. Statistics show that in recent years, the application of large doses of hormones has led to a yearly increase in the incidence of osteonecrosis. 59.21% in 1993, 62.30% in 1994, 63.15% in 1995, 63.89% in 1996, and 65% in 2000! Hormone abuse is internationally recognized as the number one killer of osteonecrosis. Especially for menopausal women, the incidence of femoral head necrosis due to hormone application is higher than that of general patients. Therefore, we suggest that for those who use a lot of hormones, even if they have no clinical symptoms, they should not be paralyzed and should promptly consult a specialist who will decide whether further examination is needed. If there is pain in the hip or medial knee joint, it often indicates that the femoral head has collapsed, which should be paid more attention to. In addition, 80% of hormonal femoral head necrosis invades the femoral head bilaterally, therefore, for those who have definite femoral head necrosis on one side, even if the opposite side is asymptomatic and negative on X-ray plain examination, MRI should be done in time.
