What causes thyroglobulin to be greater than 500

Thyroglobulin is a soluble iodinated glycoprotein synthesized and secreted by thyroid follicular epithelial cells. It can be used clinically as a tumor marker for differentiated thyroid cancer and as an important monitoring indicator for patients with differentiated thyroid cancer after surgery, with normal values generally ranging from 5-40 μg/L. Since this indicator is important for the prognosis and treatment effect of differentiated thyroid cancer, if the value is abnormal, it is recommended to seek medical examination to clarify the cause of the disease. If thyroglobulin value exceeds 500 μg/L and thyroid function and ultrasound results are normal, the patient is considered to have autoimmune thyroid disease such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, painless thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis, nodular goiter and other benign diseases. Secondly, thyroglobulin value over 500μg/L may also be caused by differentiated thyroid cancer, so it is recommended to have the corresponding examination in time to clarify the cause and give corresponding treatment. In addition, some normal women may have increased thyroglobulin with age. Therefore, if the test result exceeds 500 μg/L and other tests are normal, without other disease factors, it is considered to be a simple physiological increase.
