The macula is an important area of the retina, located at the posterior pole of the eye, and is mainly related to visual functions such as fine vision and color vision. Once the macular region is diseased, vision loss, black shadows in front of the eyes or distortion of visual objects often occur. Macular fissure is a defect of the whole tissue of the retinal neuroepithelium in the macula. Its incidence is 0.6-0.7%. It is commonly seen in the elderly, ocular trauma, and high myopia. There is a significant loss of central vision. Macular fissures in highly myopic eyes have a high chance of retinal detachment. Bilateral occurrence rate is 25%-30%. The risk of developing macular fissure is higher when fissure has occurred in one eye and there is no posterior vitreous detachment in the other eye. What are the symptoms of macular fissure? When people find that the color of the object they see has changed, losing the original color, or gray, and the eyes usually do not have red eyes, tearing, pain and other symptoms, we should think that the retina of the eye may have a lesion, that is, fundus lesions, we should promptly ask the ophthalmologist to check the fundus, if the fundus examination of the macula of the retina has a lesion, see the red circular fissure, it is called “macular fissure”. Don’t be nervous when you have this eye disease, you should pay attention to eye maintenance in general, don’t use your eyes excessively, watch TV or newspaper for a long time, especially avoid excessive vibration of your eyes, don’t chop wood, chop meat stuffing, etc. to prevent the retina from detachment due to macular fissure. Once the macular fissure is formed, and suddenly there is a large black shadow covering in front of the eyes, or a large number of floating objects appear, it indicates that the retina may have detachment, and you should go to the hospital in time, and if necessary, surgery is needed. Both simple macular fissure and macular fissure with retinal detachment can be treated surgically.
