Post-operative precautions for cervical spondylosis

  1.Will cervical spondylosis recur after surgery?  Cervical spondylosis has a certain recurrence rate, but the chance of recurrence is related to one’s living habits. If you care a lot after the surgery, treat yourself as a patient, reduce the time of working with your head down and pay attention to the height of your pillow, you can slow down the development of the disease and reduce the chance of recurrence, and vice versa.  2.Are there any things to pay attention to in life after the operation in terms of diet and rest?  First, pay attention to rest and avoid excessive activities of the neck; second, pay attention to daily posture: try not to work with your head down, reduce the time of watching computers and playing cell phones, try to sleep in a hard bed, not a soft bed, and choose a suitable height for your pillow (generally speaking, the most suitable pillow height should be just slightly higher than the width of your shoulder, and after sleeping on your side, the height of the pillow should be exactly the same as the width of your shoulder). (Match; when sleeping on your back, the pillow should be padded under your neck as much as possible so that the cervical spine has some support); Third, try to avoid trauma.  3.Can I do strenuous aerobic exercise after surgery?  No matter what kind of cervical spine surgery is done, it is not recommended to do strenuous aerobic exercise. Patients can skate on flat ground or do some light sports activities such as jogging and swimming after recovering well, but strenuous sports activities should not be done.  4.How long after surgery can I go to work and drive normally?  At least three months after surgery, you can resume the intensity of daily life, but of course, everyone’s situation is different, some people can recover in two months, some people need six months, in general, the average is about three months.  5.How often do I come for a review after cervical spine surgery?  It is generally recommended that patients should be reviewed four times in the first year after surgery, and four times in one month, three months, six months and one year after surgery, and then once a year after the condition is stabilized.  6.What are the medical records and examination materials to be brought for the review?  Patients need to bring the hospital records and surgical records that were copied at the time of discharge, as well as all the imaging films, including the post-operative review films.  7.What other tests will be done during the review?  During the review, the doctor will do some medical history and physical examination, and routinely ask the patient to take another X-ray, and if there are new symptoms or worsening of symptoms, CT or MRI will be done again.
