Choice of double eyelid surgery method

Eyelid surgery is one of the most common surgical procedures in plastic surgery, and there are three main types of surgical methods: buried, incisional, and partial incision (minimally invasive). 1. The buried suture method (some people call it the polymer molding method) is used to bury sutures directly between the skin dermis and the lid plate so that the upper eyelid skin adheres to the lid plate to form double eyelid surgery. This method is less invasive, does not leave scars, swelling subsides quickly, and does not require stitching. It is more suitable for young people with thin eyelids, long fissures, and no loose skin; it is less suitable for people with thick eyelids who need to remove fat, loose skin, and are older. The disadvantage is that the double eyelids (heavy eyelid line) may disappear. 2. The incision method is a permanent double eyelid surgery, which involves removing loose skin, some of the orbicularis oculi muscle and excess fat through an incision in the eyelid line and suturing the skin to the orbicularis oculi muscle or levator muscle tendon membrane to the lid under direct vision to form a double eyelid surgery. This method requires incision of the skin, which is slightly more traumatic, takes a little longer to reduce swelling, and leaves a linear scar. However, adjustments to the upper eyelid structure can be made through the incision, such as suspension and shortening of the levator muscle to correct mild ptosis. This method has reliable, long-lasting results and is suitable for all cases of single eyelid. 3. The minimally invasive method, which partially cuts the skin of the eyelid line, removes a small amount of orbicularis oculi muscle and fat through small incisions, and sutures the skin and lid to form a double eyelid. For example, the current so-called Korean double eyelid method, etc. The result of the surgery is natural and beautiful, with almost no scars visible and more natural and beautiful when the eyes are closed. It is suitable for young women with long eye fissures, thin eyelid skin, and no laxity in the eyelid skin. There are three main types of double eyelid surgery, but there are many variants in each type. Regardless of the method used, the principles are mostly the same. In clinical practice, it is important to choose the procedure based on the conditions of the patient (such as the length and width of the eye fissure, the laxity of the upper lid skin, orbital septal fat, the shape of the face and nose and the inner canthus, ptosis, etc.), and it is forbidden to have a one-size-fits-all approach. A successful double eyelid surgery has the following points: the width of the eyelid is appropriate; the curvature is proportional to the curvature of the upper lid and the shape of the face; the incision scar is not obvious; and the line of the double eyelid surgery is natural and smooth. The success of double eyelid surgery is not only related to the aesthetic viewpoint of the surgeon and cosmetic surgery techniques, but also to the eye shape, anatomical structure and facial shape of the patient. It is recommended that before the double eyelid surgery, it is best to combine their own conditions, communicate with the surgeon, and fully prepare for the surgery, so as to achieve the best results.
