Choosing Double Eyelids or Eyebrow Suspension Surgery?

As we age, the outer part of both eyelids “droop down”, appearing “triangular eyes”, people appear to have no spirit, or worse, the eyelids cover the eyes, affecting the vision. How to solve this problem? There is a layer of fatty tissue in the deeper layer of our eyebrows, called the brow fat pad, which is a loose sliding layer. In oriental people, the outer corner of the eye is usually 2-3° higher than the inner corner when they are young, but due to the presence of this sliding layer, the outer side of the eyebrow drops faster than the inner side, resulting in excess skin on the outer side of the upper eyelid, which in turn affects the aesthetics and vision, and gives rise to the facial manifestations of aging. When you go to a beauty salon for a consultation, some people will tell you to overhang your eyebrows, cut your eyebrows, lift your eyebrows, and others will say that you should have double eyelids, so who should you listen to? Let’s analyze, so that beauty seekers are no longer entangled. Let’s start by clarifying a few concepts. What is brow lift? A brow lift is a type of brow surgery that is different from a brow lift or a brow cut. A brow lift, also known as a sub-brow skin excision, is a procedure where the incision is designed to be made at the lower edge of the brow while preserving the brow, correcting the excess and laxity of the upper eyelid skin by removing the skin underneath the brow. It has the advantage of preserving the brow as a whole and removing stray hairs below the brow that usually need to be trimmed; the scarring after the surgery is not obvious; and the postoperative swelling is mild and recovery is quick. However, the incision for this method does not extend beyond the end of the brow, otherwise scarring will be seen at the end of the brow. For this reason, the amount of skin removed by this method is somewhat limited, in my experience not more than 0.8cm, for cases where the skin of the upper eyelid is too loose, there is a suspicion that the removal is insufficient. By the way, let me also talk about the other two types of brow surgery: brow cutting and brow lifting. In brow surgery, the entire eyebrow and the skin underneath the eyebrow are removed and sutured. The advantage is that more skin is removed, up to 1.2cm wide, but the disadvantage is that the eyebrow’s function as a rain shield is gone, and the eyebrow does not have the same three-dimensionality as a real eyebrow. Brow lift is to remove a strip of skin above the eyebrow and suture it. The advantage is that it improves the shape of the eyebrow, especially for patients whose eyebrows are not the same height on both sides. The disadvantage is that the postoperative scar is larger than that of a brow lift. Removing the excess upper eyelid skin at the same time as double eyelid surgery can also improve the symptoms of upper eyelid skin laxity, and the postoperative scar is located within the blepharoplasty line and is not obvious. For patients who have single eyelids or poorly shaped eyelids, it is possible to make good-looking double eyelids in one go. The disadvantage is that the skin above the eyelid plate is thick, coupled with a long recovery period for edema, the postoperative period is not as natural as that of eyebrow suspension. If you are not satisfied with the shape of the original eyebrow, choose brow cutting; 2, if the distance between the eyebrows and the eyes is more than 2cm, choose brow hanging; 3, the original eyebrow drooping or different heights of the eyebrows on both sides, choose brow lifting; 4, if the original is a monoclepidoma, or double eyelids are not well shaped, choose blepharoplasty; 5, if the skin of the eyelid laxity more than 1.2cm, choose brow hanging If the skin of the upper eyelid is more than 1.2cm loose, then choose brow lift.
