Abstract: Two years ago, the patient gradually felt eye discomfort, often unclear vision, dry eyes, eye swelling, etc., appropriate rest, reduce eye use slightly relieved, self-prescribed chloramphenicol eye drops did not improve, so he came to our hospital. He was diagnosed with astigmatism and binocular hyperopia by computerized optometry, and was given glasses for correction of hyperopia and astigmatism, as well as eye drops with heptafolium digitalis. After the prescription and medication, the patient’s corrected visual acuity was 1.0, with clear distant and near vision, no headache, nausea and other discomfort.
Basic information】Female, 43 years old
Disease Type】Astigmatism
Hospital】The First Hospital of Harbin Medical University
Date of Consultation】January 2021
Treatment Plan】With hyperopic astigmatism frame glasses + hepatocarpus digitalis eye drops
Treatment Period】Outpatient prescription, 1 year follow-up
【Treatment Result】The patient’s vision was corrected to 1.0 after optometry and prescription, with clear vision at distance and near, no headache, nausea and other discomfort.
I. Initial consultation
The patient is a 43-year-old woman who works as a clerk in an office. In the past two years, she often felt dizzy, with swollen, dry eyes, foreign body sensation, blurred vision, and sometimes headache and nausea during or after work. He went to a hospital and was diagnosed with conjunctivitis and dry eye, and was given anti-inflammatory eye drops and artificial tears, but his eyes did not improve. When he came to our hospital, his visual acuity was 0.6 in both eyes, and no abnormality was found by slit lamp ophthalmoscopy.
II. Treatment process
After communicating with the patient and his family, the patient was given anti-fatigue eye drops, hepatocarpus digitalis drops, and tried on hyperopic and astigmatic frame glasses, and was told to wear glasses again when he felt better. After obtaining the best corrected visual acuity lens prescription by comprehensive optometry, the patient was asked to try on the corresponding prescription frame glasses for 60 minutes, and the patient had no adverse complaints and clear vision.
III. Treatment effect
The patient was asked to try on the glasses with 1.5 Dcyl 90° in both eyes, with corrected visual acuity of 1.0 in both eyes, for 1 hour, and was asked to look far away, look near, and move his head and limbs appropriately. The patient was given a prescription for glasses, which should be worn regularly after prescription, and may be reviewed in one year.
IV. Notes
The patient’s vision was corrected to 1.0 after the optometry and prescription, and the distance and near vision were clear, without headache, nausea and other discomfort. If there is any discomfort, such as mild vertigo and fatigue, you can temporarily stop wearing glasses, rest your eyes and use hepatocarpus digitalis eye drops, and continue to wear them when the symptoms improve or disappear. However, even if you wear glasses, you should not look at things for a long time, so as not to produce visual fatigue symptoms, and try not to continue to look at things and read for more than half an hour, and to rest for 10 minutes every half hour or so when you really need to look at things and read for a long time. Lenses should be scrubbed regularly to avoid damage to the lens surface by sharp objects. If there is any damage to the lenses or if you have been wearing the lenses for more than one year, or if you are uncomfortable wearing the lenses, you should go to the hospital in time for a follow-up examination and re-fitting of glasses.
V. Personal insight
Patients above middle-aged should go to the hospital to check for astigmatism when they find eye discomfort. After excluding other diseases, astigmatism mostly requires corrective glasses and anti-fatigue eye drops, because the adjustment power of these people’s eyes starts to decline to different degrees, and the original astigmatism will show obvious symptoms, affecting life and work. Although modern technology such as surgery and contact lenses are available, wearing frame glasses is still a simple and effective means of correction. Pay attention to the usual eye hygiene and try to achieve clearer, more comfortable and longer lasting eye health standards.
