Cervical ligamentotomy

Most cervical spondylosis is caused by degenerative changes in the cervical spine, often caused by a herniated cervical disc in the front of the cervical spine and hypertrophy of the ligaments behind the yellow side, which together compress the spinal nerves and lead to a series of symptoms such as numbness, pain, weakness, instability in holding objects, difficulty in walking or a feeling of stepping on cotton. The traditional treatment methods are anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, or cervical disc replacement, and posterior cervical spinal canal enlargement and shaping, while the posterior surgery enlarges the spinal canal while destroying the integrity of the cervical spinal canal, resulting in a series of axial symptoms such as postoperative neck and shoulder pain, which has been a major problem in the treatment of cervical spondylosis. The cervical ligamentotomy researched by the Department of Orthopedics of Qingdao Municipal Hospital, after nearly ten years of clinical application and follow-up studies, shows that it can effectively release the posterior spinal cord compression while preserving the integrity of the bony spinal canal and avoiding the occurrence of complications such as axial symptoms, which is a less invasive treatment method for cervical spondylosis.
