Do I need to take medication for life after thyroid cancer surgery?

Thyroxine tablets are required for life after thyroid cancer surgery. This has two main purposes: firstly, taking thyroxine tablets will stop the development of the remaining thyroid tissue from growing; secondly, taking thyroxine tablets will inhibit the recurrence or metastasis of thyroid cancer. In addition, taking thyroxine tablets is necessary to supplement the function of the excised thyroid gland. Some patients are concerned about taking thyroxine tablets for the rest of their lives, but this is not necessary. Taking thyroxine tablets can return your thyroid function to normal levels with minimal or almost no side effects at the right dosage. In addition, taking the medication should also take into account the patient’s situation, such as the patient has heart disease, if the heart rate increases significantly after taking the medication, the dose can be reduced appropriately; if the tumor is more malignant and prone to recurrence, the dose should be larger, of course, this is within a certain permissible range.
