Can birthmarks be completely removed?

Birthmarks are usually skin pigmentation abnormalities that are present at birth or shortly after birth. Most birthmarks remain for life and do not fade, while only a few fade or disappear as the child grows. In addition, there are some birthmarks that can be cleared by related treatments. Due to the nature of the birthmark, its transformation and treatment results vary greatly. A few birthmarks are able to recover without treatment, such as Mongolian spots on the buttocks and hemangiomas that have not developed and grown, and they fade with age, usually before school age. However, for this type of birthmarks such as Ito nevus and nevus of Ota, laser treatment is needed, which is usually done once in 1-2 months and 3-5 times before they gradually fade away. In addition, surgery or injection of sclerotherapy is generally recommended for cavernous hemangioma. Birthmarks generally do not affect the health of individuals and can be left untreated if they do not affect aesthetics. If aesthetics is pursued, different types of treatments can be used for different birthmarks.
