Causes of foreign bodies in the throat

Foreign bodies in the esophagus can occur in children or adults. Common foreign bodies include fish spines, meat bones, chicken and duck bones, date kernels, coins, dentures, buttons, medallions and small toys. The main reasons for foreign bodies in the esophagus are: ① Eating in a hurry, or eating and laughing at the same time, resulting in food being swallowed by careful chewing. When too many teeth are lost, which prevents chewing, it is also easy to swallow foreign bodies by mistake. ②Children often like to play with coins and small toys in their mouths, and if they do not pay attention, they can easily swallow foreign objects by mistake. ③Some adults, when working at a high place, often contain things such as pins in the mouth, inadvertently swallowed, resulting in foreign bodies in the esophagus. ④Dentures are too loose, and when eating (especially when eating sticky food such as cowardly rice), the dentures fall off and are swallowed into the esophagus. In addition, if the dentures are not removed in time before general anesthesia or for patients in coma, they can become a foreign body after swallowing. The symptoms after the infarction of foreign body are related to the size and location of the foreign body and whether it is accompanied by infection. Common symptoms include painful swallowing and difficulty in swallowing. When the foreign body is small and the infection is not significant, the symptoms are mild or there is only a feeling of obstruction, but you can still eat soft food such as porridge and noodles; when the foreign body is large or accompanied by infection, the swallowing difficulty is obvious, and even dripping does not enter. Due to the inconvenience of swallowing, there may be an increase in saliva. When the foreign body is accompanied by infection, there may be inflammatory symptoms such as fever and general discomfort. To treat foreign bodies on the tonsils, they can be removed with a long mirror clamp under the illumination of a flashlight. If a foreign body enters the laryngopharynx or esophagus, the foreign body should be removed with a pair of pliers under laryngoscopic esophagoscopic vision at an early stage. In case of co-infection, antibiotics should be used. If an abscess is formed, an incision to drain the pus is required. Foreign bodies in the esophagus are completely preventable. First of all, when eating, you should pay attention to the concentration of the mind, do not laugh while talking and talk. You should not eat too quickly, and you should not swallow too much. Teach children to change the bad habit of playing with small toys in their mouths. When adults operate at high altitude, they should not hold pins in their mouths for convenience. People who have lost more teeth or have dentures often do not chew too fine and are prone to swallowing foreign objects by mistake, so they should be more careful when eating. The dentures that are too loose or damaged by the fixed hooks should be reassigned in time. Before going to bed, or before general anesthesia or after unconsciousness, the dentures should be removed. After swallowing a foreign body by mistake, you should go to the hospital in time. Do not swallow rice balls, steamed buns, leeks, etc. in an attempt to swallow the foreign body. This method is not reliable, but may make the foreign body pierce deeper, aggravate the injury and make the treatment more difficult.
