What should I do if I have amblyopia?

Amblyopia is a visual dysfunction that is far more harmful than myopia. It not only affects children’s further education, future employment and work, but also prevents them from engaging in special industries such as surveying and mapping and joining the military, and brings inconvenience to children’s learning and life, and can seriously lead to lifelong low vision, resulting in low self-esteem and affecting children’s heart health. So, how to diagnose amblyopia? For adults, a person with no organic lesions in the eye but corrected visual acuity below 0.9 is called amblyopia. When the age is below 6 years old, it is called amblyopia when it is below the standard of visual development of children of the same age. Amblyopia is a common clinical ophthalmology disease in children. It is a state of reduced visual function that occurs when infants and young children fail to receive appropriate visual stimuli due to various reasons, such as perceptual, motor, conduction and visual centers, and thus visual development is affected. Amblyopia can be detected through collective refractive testing in early childhood, and can be cured if detected early and treated promptly, and is best treated before the age of 6; generally speaking, the effect of treatment after the age of 10 is relatively poor; the effect is worse after the age of 12. The majority of amblyopia treatment methods need to be carried out under the guidance of a doctor, and parents of children with amblyopia can do some supplementary training in the family, amblyopia treatment methods generally include: masking therapy, suppression therapy, visual stimulation therapy, afterimage therapy, visual training therapy, etc. Parents should be more aware that regular eye exams should be done regardless of whether their child has symptoms or not, especially the first exam should be done before the child is 1 year old. If amblyopia is diagnosed, parents should cooperate with ophthalmologists and optometrists and do the following: 1. 2.If the amblyopia is treated with masking therapy, do not take off the blindfold too soon until the vision is back to normal. It is better to wait until the vision is stable and then follow the doctor’s instruction to reduce the duration of masking. 3. Regular follow-up visits to the hospital are required to check whether the vision is stable and to determine the duration of the masking, which is usually once every 2-3 months. Even if you are cured before the age of 12, there is still a possibility of recurrence, so you should insist on follow-up examinations. 4. Insist on doing visual training. Even after the vision is stable, it is better not to give up the training, you can adjust the training method and training time under the guidance of doctors and optometrists.
