How many days does it take for a cold to heal itself?

Colds usually heal themselves in about 7 days, but whether and how long it takes to heal depends on the individual’s physical condition and the condition of the cold. The common viral cold is a common acute upper respiratory tract infectious disease, which is self-limiting and usually heals itself in about 7 days with rest and water, relying mainly on the individual’s own resistance to fight the virus. However, the course of influenza is longer and the disease is generally more severe, and some patients can recover from it after 1-2 weeks. In addition, for elderly and frail patients, or patients with serious underlying diseases such as heart disease and diabetes, their cold symptoms may be more severe and may not heal on their own, requiring the application of antiviral drugs to shorten the course of the disease. Therefore, it is recommended that patients take more rest and drink more water to promote metabolism during the cold period, and pay attention to avoid straining and further exposure to cold, eat lightly and be moderately active, and visit the respiratory medicine department of the hospital when symptoms worsen.
