What is the prognosis for staphylococcal pneumonia?

Staphylococcal pneumonia is a serious group of medical illnesses with an acute onset and a mortality rate of 10% to 30%, with a mortality rate of 75% in elderly patients over 70 years of age. The presence of complications, the need for mechanical ventilation to maintain blood oxygen, tachypnoea, low blood pressure and confusion often indicate a poor prognosis and a high mortality rate.
