Pregnant women with HIV can easily transmit the HIV virus to their babies, so it is not recommended that they become pregnant with HIV. It has been proven that HIV is present in human blood, vaginal secretions, semen, chest and abdominal fluids, amniotic fluid and breast milk. The fetus can be infected with HIV in utero through various routes of exposure to the mother’s blood. Because of the large amount of HIV in the vagina of a pregnant woman, a newborn can be infected during the perinatal period. Therefore, the risk of HIV infection in newborns is very high and the life expectancy of HIV-infected newborns is very short, so it is not recommended that pregnant women with HIV become pregnant.
