Many of you may have heard of the term “nerve killing”, and some patients with toothaches know that they need to “kill the nerve” themselves. So, what is “nerve killing” all about? There is a nerve in the tooth called the pulp. When the pulp is exposed or attacked by bacteria, it causes inflammation, and then you need to go to the hospital for treatment, which we call “root canal treatment”, which the people used to call “nerve killing”. In simple terms, the pulp is killed, then removed, and finally the pulp chamber is filled with the appropriate material to form an airtight environment. This is a set of standardized treatment, more complex, killing the nerve is only one of the steps, and even when the pulp can be removed, it is not necessary to kill the nerve first. In our country, when dentistry was first developed, because of technical limitations, so after killing the nerve may not completely remove the dead nerve, but use some drugs to sterilize it and fix it, this practice now seems to be rather backward and is rarely used, but it is cheaper. At present, this method is only used in regular hospitals for some teeth that are not easy to operate.
