How long does it take for hyperplastic scars to flatten and soften?

Hyperplastic scars usually mature in about a year, thinning in thickness and softening in texture; however, some of them become keloids and do not fade, but may continue to grow larger. Scars are divided into immature scars and mature scars depending on their color and texture. Immature scars, as the name implies, are scars that are still in the process of changing. At the early stage of injury healing, the localized scars will be red, thicker, and may be several centimeters in thickness, with a rough surface to the touch, hard texture, and poor elasticity, and will be itchy and painful. With time, about a year (some patients may take a little longer), the scar will enter the mature stage, the color will gradually match the surrounding skin, the capillaries will not be visible on the surface, it will become thinner and softer, and the itching and pain will disappear. However, some scars will continue to grow and become keloid scars or even keloid cancer. Therefore, scars should never be allowed to develop and some intervention should be made in the early stage. However, due to the different parts, time and causes of formation of scars, there are differences in their treatment, and it is recommended to consult a doctor in dermatology outpatient clinic for targeted treatment.
