What do you know about visual fatigue?

What is visual fatigue? Visual fatigue is a group of syndromes in which the eye can see more than its visual function can carry due to various causes, resulting in visual impairment, eye discomfort or systemic symptoms after using the eye, and thus unable to perform normal visual work. What are the symptoms of visual fatigue? Symptoms of visual fatigue: (1) visual impairment: temporary blurring or double vision when working or reading at close range; (2) eye discomfort: eye swelling, eye pain, eye dryness, eye burning, tearing, eye itching, eye foreign body sensation and orbital pain; (3) systemic symptoms: easy fatigue, headache, dizziness, memory loss, and even nausea and vomiting in severe cases, as well as anxiety, irritability and other symptoms of neurosis. What are the causes of visual fatigue? The causes of visual fatigue are diverse and can be broadly divided into the following three categories: ① ocular factors, including abnormal visual function of both eyes, inadequate adjustment and concentration; various uncorrected refractive problems, such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia and high refractive error; certain eye diseases that cause visual fatigue, such as dry eye, blephar gland dysfunction, conjunctivitis, etc.; ② environmental factors, various light and color vision abnormal stimuli in the work and living environment, such as prolonged computer use. (3) mental and psychological factors, people with high mental stress, neurasthenia or neurosis are more likely to suffer from visual fatigue. How to relieve visual fatigue? The key to treating visual fatigue is to eliminate the cause of the disease. For example, for patients with inaccurate original prescription or not yet refractive correction, accurate optometry and prescription should be given; for those with abnormal visual function of both eyes, corresponding functional training or eye position correction should be given; for visual fatigue caused by video terminal syndrome, it should be recommended to use less or stop using video terminal equipment: for patients with psycho-psychological factors. Patients with psycho-psychological factors must be treated and counseled first: for those with certain eye diseases, corresponding treatment should be given in time; for other systemic factors, timely treatment should be given in relevant departments. Symptomatic treatment is another way to treat visual fatigue. Symptomatic treatment includes medication and non-pharmacological treatment, which mainly includes drugs to improve eye regulation, artificial tears, ciliary muscle paralyzing agents and some herbs to nourish the liver and brighten the eyes, etc. Non-pharmacological treatment includes physical therapy such as fog vision method, far-seeing method and eye exercises, etc.
