When it comes to swollen lymph nodes, many families easily associate it with lymphoma and malignant tumors, so they are very nervous and anxious. So how to treat swollen lymph nodes in children? The vast majority of swollen lymph nodes are caused by inflammation, and only a very few are tumor-related. Inflammation can take various forms, such as upper respiratory tract infections (cold and fever, bronchitis, laryngitis), oral infections (oral inflammation associated with tooth replacement in children), tonsillitis, eczema of the skin on the head and face, and allergic rhinitis, all of which can cause swollen lymph nodes. In addition, a large proportion of hidden inflammatory diseases without any clinical manifestations can also cause swollen lymph nodes. This is because children’s immune system is not yet mature, and they are very vulnerable to external bacteria and viruses, while lymph nodes are the body’s barrier to the outside world, relying on the proliferation of lymphatic tissue in lymph nodes to resist the invasion of external bacteria and viruses. The swollen lymph nodes caused by inflammation generally do not need special treatment for the lymph nodes, but only need to actively treat the primary infection. After the upper respiratory tract infection, oral infection, tonsillitis, etc. are cured, the swollen lymph nodes will naturally subside. As long as there is no sudden increase in size, redness, swelling and pain, no treatment is needed. The most common type of lymph node swelling caused by tumors is lymphoma. Metastases from nearby organs can also cause lymph node swelling, such as thyroid cancer. If the lymph nodes suddenly swell within 1-2 days, accompanied by obvious local redness, swelling, pain, or even burning of the skin on the surface, the slightest touching will cause severe pain. This is most likely to be a case of lymphadenitis, which needs to be treated with antibiotics in time to treat the infection, and in severe cases, it may cause lymph node abscess or even require incision and drainage. In addition, if there are very hard lymph nodes that are enlarged and fixed and can’t be pushed, or if multiple lymph nodes are fused into a mass, you should seek medical attention as soon as possible, as they may be related to tumors.
