1.What are the causes of cervical spondylosis? Cervical spondylosis is a disorder based on degenerative pathological changes and has many causes, but there are four causes: (1) degenerative changes of the cervical spine (cervical hyperplasia, disc herniation, etc.); (2) chronic strain injury (the most common cause such as low head work, etc.); (3) developmental cervical spinal stenosis (mostly congenital); (4) congenital malformations of the cervical spine (relatively rare, such as butterfly spine, and vertebrae, etc.). Among them, the first two are the main causes. 2.Does cervical spondylosis occur only in the elderly? Cervical spondylosis is one of the common and frequent diseases of middle-aged and elderly people. However, in recent years, there is an increasing trend of young people suffering from this disease, and people whose work is concentrated on the same posture of the head and neck for a long time, or those who have frequent head and neck activities and are engaged in neck injury-prone occupations, such as white-collar workers who have to sit at desks for a long time, computer operators, accountants, teachers, students, etc., are 4 to 6 times more likely to suffer from cervical spondylosis if their posture is not correct, so they should not be taken lightly. We should not take it lightly. 3.What are the manifestations of cervical spondylosis? Based on clinical manifestations, cervical spondylosis is usually classified into six categories, namely cervical cervical spondylosis, neurogenic, spinal cord, vertebral artery, sympathetic nerve and mixed cervical spondylosis. Clinically, four types of cervical spondylosis belong to the most frequent types: (1) Nerve root type: The incidence rate is the highest. When the nerve root is compressed by the cervical spine, it can be manifested as nerve pain, sensory impairment, numbness, abnormal sensation and inflexibility of activities in the area it innervates. Tilting the head, coughing and sneezing can aggravate it. The earlier the time of seeking medical attention, the better the treatment, and most patients can be partially relieved and do not need surgical treatment. (2) Spinal cord type: About 10-15% of patients have this type. When herniated discs, osteophytes, or thickened or ossified ligaments connecting the bones and joints occur, the spinal cord and blood vessels can be compressed, and even ischemia or necrosis of the spinal cord can occur. In the early stage, the numbness of lower limbs is unilateral or bilateral, and later develops into difficulty in walking and urinary and fecal dysfunction or even paralysis. (3) Sympathetic nerve type: about 5%. The symptoms are caused by compression of sympathetic nerves in the neck. Because of its wide distribution, it can cause symptoms in many organs and systems. These include: head symptoms: dizziness, headache, posterior neck pain; eye symptoms: drooping eyelids, blurred vision, and even blindness; heart symptoms: rapid or slowed heartbeat, heart pain; peripheral symptoms: numbness or pain in the limbs, head, neck, and face; others: tinnitus, deafness, etc. (4) Vertebral artery type: about 2%. It is a series of symptoms caused by the dysfunction of the vertebral artery due to external compression or stimulation, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the brain. The early symptoms are usually not obvious, but when aggravated to a certain degree, the sudden onset of the disease is manifested in a special position, as long as the neck is turned in a certain direction, vertigo appears immediately, and even feels dizzy. Sometimes accompanied by headache, nausea and vomiting, tinnitus, blurred vision, etc. 4.Is it cervical spondylosis if I often fall off the pillow? It is a sudden pain in the neck muscles after sleeping or trauma, especially when the head and neck are turned, the clinical manifestation is a sudden pain and discomfort in the back of the neck and upper back in the morning, more on one side, but also on both sides of the pain, or one focus, one side light. Most of the patients can recall the poor sleeping position last night, and there is tenderness in the neck muscles during examination. Due to the pain, the neck movement is inflexible and cannot rotate freely, and in severe cases, there are difficulties in pitching and tilting, and even the head is straightened in an abnormal position, making the head deviate to the sick side. If the pillow is often dropped, it means that the cervical spine loses stability and the strain on the neck muscles is obvious, which is a common manifestation of cervical cervical spondylosis. 5.How is cervical spondylosis treated? The treatment of cervical spondylosis is divided into surgical and non-surgical methods. Most cervical spondylosis can be relieved by non-surgical methods such as physiotherapy and massage, while for some cervical spondylosis such as spinal cervical spondylosis is not effective, this type of cervical spondylosis may require surgery, and others such as the correct lifestyle and work posture are also a very important part of the treatment.
