Is meniscus wear the same as meniscus injury?

Meniscus wear is not the same as meniscus damage, with the following main differences.
The cause is different: meniscal wear is mostly due to long-term use and friction of the knee joint, whereas meniscal injuries are mostly caused by trauma, with meniscal tears being the main cause, with degenerative meniscal injuries being caused by long-term wear and tear of the meniscus.
Different groups of people: Meniscus wear occurs in the elderly, athletes and obese people, while meniscus injury occurs in young people.
Treatment differs: meniscal wear is generally mild and is treated mainly with medication to nourish the meniscus and cartilage, whereas meniscal injuries are more severe and are generally treated with arthroscopic surgery.
