Microvascular decompression – a good treatment for facial muscle spasm

Facial muscle spasm, also known as facial muscle twitching. It is a condition of involuntary twitching of the half side of the face. The twitching is paroxysmal and irregular, with varying degrees, and can be aggravated by fatigue, mental stress and voluntary movements. It starts from the orbicularis oculi muscle and then involves the whole face. In severe cases, it can cause the eyes to open and the corners of the mouth to be crooked to one side, which seriously affects the normal life. The disease mostly occurs after middle age and is common in women. The cause of this disease is mostly caused by the compression of the facial nerve by blood vessels, and symptomatic treatment is generally used, but the effect is not ideal. Intracranial microvascular decompression is a common method in international neurosurgery, and the efficiency of facial spasm can be more than 95%. Wang Danyang from Gaocheng City is such a patient with facial muscle spasm, Wang Danyang suffered from facial muscle spasm for about 10 years, saw many hospitals, ate a lot of drugs, acupuncture, plaster, but did not see obvious effect, and more and more serious, when serious can not sleep, seriously affected Wang Danyang’s normal life, once lost confidence in further treatment. Wang Danyang had heard that Dr. Jiao Qingfang of the Neurosurgery Department of Shijiazhuang First Hospital was more specialized in the treatment of the disease, so she came to see Dr. Jiao with the attitude of trying. After the meeting, Dr. Jiao gave Wang a detailed examination and confirmed the diagnosis of facial muscle spasm. Dr. Jiao used the posterior suboccipital sigmoid sinus pathway, made an incision in the hairline behind the ear, 5 cm long, milled the occipital bone to make a small 2×2 cm bone window, cut the meninges, and under the microscope, found the facial nerve, and found that the superior cerebellar artery was closely adhered to the facial nerve. The dura was sutured and the bone flap was fixed, and the surgery was successfully completed. After the surgery, Wang recovered well and her facial muscles did not jump at all without any complications. She was very happy and praised Shijiazhuang First Hospital for its high standard.
