What is fatty liver disease? How to treat and prevent it?

Fatty liver is a lesion caused by excessive accumulation of fat in the liver cells. When the fat metabolism of the liver is impaired and excess fat accumulates in the liver cells, with triglyceride levels exceeding 5% of the liver’s wet weight, or when more than 50% of the liver cells are histologically steatified, the liver is said to be fatty. In most cases, fatty liver is reversible and has a good prognosis. However, some cases of fatty liver can lead to liver fibrosis and even cirrhosis. The easiest way to detect fatty liver is by ultrasound. According to research, the accuracy of ultrasonography in diagnosing fatty liver can be as high as 97%, and CT scans are highly sensitive to density differences. The CT value can decrease by 1, 6Hu for every 1mg increase in triglycerides per gram of liver tissue, and the higher the fat content in liver cells, the lower the CT value. Liver biopsy to diagnose fatty liver is the most reliable. What factors can induce fatty liver 1, dietary factors: long-term excess nutrition, consumption of food containing high fat, high cholesterol and other important reasons for the formation of fatty liver. 2, a lot of alcohol: in the role of alcohol can also make the liver fat metabolism disorders occur “alcoholic fatty liver”. 3, about half of the obese patients can be seen with mild fatty liver. The incidence of fatty liver in patients with severe obesity can be as high as 60% or more. 4. Drugs or chemical toxins are prone to induce fatty liver. 5. Infection and endocrine diseases can often be accompanied by fatty liver. 6. Fatty liver may also occur in people who do not like to exercise and who sit for a long time at work. The consequences of fatty liver are different depending on the cause of fatty liver. If it is caused by overnutrition and obesity, the fat accumulation can be reduced or disappeared by adjusting the diet structure or scientific weight loss measures. However, fatty liver caused by long-term use of liver-damaging drugs, or chronic alcoholism combined with chronic hepatitis has a poor prognosis and can lead to cirrhosis, which must be treated systematically. Fatty liver classification Fatty liver can be divided into two types: alcoholic fatty liver and non-alcoholic fatty liver. Drinking more than 80 grams of alcohol per day can cause damage to the liver. Alcoholic hepatitis and fatty liver occur in 40% of people who drink 160 grams of alcohol per day. The incidence increases with the amount of alcohol consumed. Non-alcoholic fatty liver contains several types, mainly obese fatty liver, diabetic fatty liver, overnutrition and malnutrition fatty liver, drug-related fatty liver and other types of fatty liver. Specialized treatment for fatty liver Treatment of fatty liver is not ideal with a single approach. Our center adopts individualized comprehensive therapy, i.e., diet and exercise based on Chinese and Western medicine combined with drugs, acupuncture and physiotherapy, which is beginning to show good results and prospects. 1.Adjustment of diet A precise algorithm is used to calculate the daily calorie requirement for different patients, and then individualized healthy recipes are prescribed according to the food calorie table respectively. Alcohol drinkers must abstain from alcohol. 2.Increase exercise According to the way of material metabolism in human body during exercise, the exercise program can be divided into two categories: aerobic exercise and anaerobic exercise. According to the patient’s age, health status, exercise experience, obesity, living environment and season, individualized exercise prescriptions are prescribed. Exercise prescription includes preparation before exercise, heart rate and duration to be achieved during exercise, exercise interval, modality, and total daily/weekly exercise time. The exercise modality and interest helps to be consistent. Too little or too much exercise has different effects and can even cause adverse reactions. To determine whether the amount of exercise is appropriate, you need to combine heart rate and physical sensation. 3.Medication For the condition of different patients, Chinese and Western medicine are used respectively, focusing on the causes and accompanying diseases, such as hyperlipidemia, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, etc. Through evidence-based treatment, we prescribe individualized Chinese and Western medicine prescriptions is our specialty. 4.Acupuncture and physiotherapy Using the theory of Chinese medicine and modern medical theory, through the combination of different acupuncture points and acupuncture techniques, or the use of biological force pump therapy instrument physiotherapy, with the introduction of Chinese medicine ions, to improve the efficiency of liver “transport”, the excess fat out of the liver, for the liver to do “cleaning”. “The liver will be cleaned up.
